Tradesilvania and Ipsos Romania have released the second edition of their study on cryptocurrency adoption in Romania, conducted among internet users aged 18 to 55.
According to the latest study by Ipsos Romania and Tradesilvania, 1 in 3 Romanians who are familiar with cryptocurrencies already own them, while overall interest in the market remains high – although more selective than in previous years.
The study highlights a shift toward a new phase of market maturity: from broad enthusiasm to more informed decision-making and increased awareness of risk.
In terms of adoption, the data points to consolidation rather than acceleration: 1 in 3 respondents familiar with cryptocurrencies currently hold digital assets, while 70% say they intend to invest in the future. Compared to the previous study conducted in 2022, both ownership and investment intent have declined slightly, suggesting a more selective market with greater sensitivity to risk.
This shift is also reflected in public perception: 55% of respondents view cryptocurrencies as speculative assets, yet more than half still consider them a worthwhile investment opportunity. Interest remains strong, but it is now accompanied by a more realistic understanding of the associated risks.
Interest in cryptocurrencies continues to be high in Romania, but user behavior is becoming increasingly selective. Fewer people are investing impulsively, and investment decisions are now more strongly influenced by factors such as accessibility, transaction costs, and the ability to withdraw funds in local currency.
“In Romania, the cryptocurrency market is entering a phase of consolidation. After the excitement of previous years, users are becoming more cautious about risk and more calculated in their decisions. This is a natural response during a period marked by instability, inflationary pressure, and declining purchasing power,” said Dorian Cazacu.
“We are seeing a clear transition from curiosity to intentional use. Users are no longer looking only for access to crypto, but for solutions that allow them to enter and exit the market quickly and under predictable conditions. Infrastructure is becoming the key differentiator,” said Ciprian Dobrescu.
Other key findings
- Crypto education is increasingly moving to social media: the share of respondents using social platforms as a source of information rose from 23% to 35%, reaching the same level as online search, which declined from 47%.
- Bitcoin remains the dominant asset in the market, held by more than 60% of crypto owners.
- Solana has climbed the adoption rankings, surpassing other popular assets from the previous study, including MultiversX. The Romanian-founded cryptocurrency has lost ground in user preference, with awareness declining from 18% in 2022 to 10% in 2025, and ownership decreasing from 8% to 5%.
- Web3 remains an emerging segment: 3 in 10 respondents are familiar with the concept, and among them, more than half already use related services such as wallets, DEXs, and NFT marketplaces.
The study outlines a market in the process of consolidation, where users are better informed but also more demanding when choosing the platforms and services they use.
