- Trump reiterates crypto support and the need for the US government to hold its digital assets.
- His comments follow the recent $2 billion in Bitcoin selling by the US.
On August 5, former US President Donald Trump had an interesting livestream with Adin Ross, the 23-year-old video game streamer who gained popularity on Twitch.
During the interview, Trump reiterated his support for digital assets among other subjects. At one point, Ross brought up the recent US government Bitcoin selling and asked Trump if he would support crypto in case he wins the 2024 US election.
Trump responded by saying that the government shouldn’t sell its crypto, and instead “build it.” He mentioned that China is already doing it, along with other countries.
Trump also called crypto a “very modern currency”, highlighting its similarities to AI. He said that the US should not be left behind in this regard as crypto is “right in that sphere.”
At the end of the livestream, Ross gifted Trump a Tesla Cybertruck, featuring images of him fist-bumping after surviving his assassination attempt.
Making the US a Bitcoin Global Superpower
Trump’s comments supporting crypto come right after the Bitcoin Conference during which Trump praised Bitcoin and digital assets, highlighting the need for the US government to stop selling its coins.
He also laid out plans to make the US the global Bitcoin superpower.
Also, after the conference, the US government transferred $2 billion worth of BTC to an unidentified wallet, according to reports coming from Arkham Intelligence.
The crypto wallet was labeled as belonging to the US Dept. of Justice and the move of funds was made on July 29, more than a week ago. According to official data, the funds were previously confiscated from the dark web market Silk Road.
Bitcoin – A Focus for 2024 US Elections
Bitcoin, along with the whole crypto industry, has become the focal point for this year’s US elections. Besides maximum support from the former US President, BTC has been placed in the highlight by Senator Cynthia Lummis as well.
She recently drafted a bill that would push the US to buy up to 200,000 BTC on a yearly basis for a five-year period.
Bitcoin was a subject recently addressed by RFK Jr. as well. He said he’d push the federal government to buy Bitcoin until the US’s BTC reserves match the ones of gold.
