Key Points

  • Donald Trump expresses clear support for crypto in a Truth Social post.
  • Trump's campaign recently launched a tool for crypto donations.

Former US President Donald Trump, who is currently a leading Republican candidate for 2024, has expressed his strongest support for crypto to date. This was done via a post on Truth Social, shared shortly before his scheduled appearance at the Libertarian National Convention.

Trump's Stance on Crypto

In his post, Trump emphasized his positivity and openness towards cryptocurrency companies and all aspects of this emerging industry. He stressed that the US needs to take the lead in this sector, adding that there is no room for second place. This is a stark contrast to his previous skepticism towards cryptocurrencies when compared to the US dollar.

Trump's change of heart seems to have been influenced by a successful venture into Trump-branded NFT trading cards. It also appears that crypto policy has become a significant issue on the campaign trail in recent weeks, prompting Trump to position himself as the pro-crypto candidate.

The Political Landscape

His comments came just before his address to the Libertarian National Convention, where he may attempt to sway voters from supporting third-party candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known for his pro-crypto and anti-regulation views. This also coincides with the recent launch of a tool by the Trump campaign that allows contributors to donate in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Dogecoin, and Shiba Inu.
