Key Points
- Gnosis Chain has implemented the Dencun upgrade, introducing type 3 blob transactions to scale dapps.
- Blob.Fm, a content-based platform, was the first dapp to utilize blobs on the Gnosis Chain network.
The Gnosis Chain team has successfully launched a version of the Dencun upgrade on their network.
This has led to the activation of type 3 blob transactions on the sidechain, a step aimed at enhancing the scalability of decentralized applications (dapps).
Blobs and Dapps
Blob.Fm, a platform centered around content, was the first dapp on the Gnosis Chain to take advantage of blobs.
Gnosis Chain, previously known as xDai Chain, functions as a sidechain in conjunction with Ethereum.
It is managed by GnosisDAO and boasts a total value locked exceeding $320 million.
It serves as a host for various dapps like Balancer, Spark, Aave, Aura, and more.
The Dencun Upgrade
Stefan George, the co-founder of Gnosis Chain, announced the activation of Dencun.
He mentioned that blobs can now be used to scale Gnosis or to post images using blob.fm.
These blob transactions, also known as EIP-4844 or protodanksharding, are set to go live on the Ethereum mainnet with the activation of the Dencun upgrade.
This is scheduled to occur at epoch 269568, which is set for 13:55 UTC on the following day.
Blobs will serve as an additional feature on the network, enhancing data availability without affecting the existing Ethereum infrastructure.
This will lead to more affordable transactions across Layer 2 rollups.
The ultimate goal of this upgrade is to make decentralized applications more cost-effective and accessible for users on Layer 2s.
