OpenAI has recently announced the introduction of a new plugin feature for its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, ChatGPT-4.

The feature, currently in its limited alpha phase, allows the AI to retrieve information from online sources and interact with third-party websites, addressing one of the platform’s major limitations. To gain access to the new feature on Chat GPT Plus, users are required to join a waitlist, according to the company’s announcement on March 23.

As part of its initial rollout, the ChatGPT Plus platform will support 11 plugins, ranging from live sports scores to booking international flights and ordering food for home delivery.

Among the supported websites are e-commerce platforms Shopify, Klarna, and Instacart, as well as travel search engines Expedia and KAYAK.

The AI chatbot utilizes the Bing API for web searches and a text-based web browser to navigate results and interact with websites.

It can synthesize information from multiple sources to provide more accurate responses, citing sources for users to verify the information.

The plugin feature came in response to high demand from the ChatGPT user base, which has grown significantly since its launch on November 30, 2022.

Mitchell Hashimoto, the founder of software firm HashiCorp and an early user of the ChatGPT plugin API, praised the application as one of the most “impressive” he has ever used.

In light of these recent advancements, Cointelegraph has launched an experiment to test ChatGPT-4’s ability to invest in cryptocurrencies using data from Cointelegraph Markets and daily news articles.

Cointelegraph provided ChatGPT-4 with a budget of $100 and instructed it to maximize profits by navigating the volatile cryptocurrency market.

After one week, the AI-managed cryptocurrency portfolio has seen a 6.08% increase, with an allocation consisting of 55% Bitcoin (BTC), 35% Ether (ETH), 5% Cardano (ADA), and 5% XRP.

As the experiment continues, the crypto community is eager to see if ChatGPT-4 can maintain its performance in the volatile market.

Mitchell Hashimoto, founder of software firm HashiCorp and an early user of the ChatGPT plugin API, praised the application on Twitter, calling it one of the most “impressive” computer applications he has ever used.

As the plugin feature continues to develop, OpenAI aims to gradually roll out more plugins and make the feature available to a larger user base.

The integration of AI-powered tools into various sectors, including cryptocurrency trading, signals a growing trend towards the adoption of artificial intelligence for everyday tasks and decision-making.
