- Trump shows strong support for the US crypto industry.
The former US President and 2024 candidate, Donald Trump, has just promised to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, founder of the Silk Road online marketplace, in a massive display of his support for the crypto industry in the country.
As Bloomberg notes, Ulbricht who is now 40 years old is serving a life sentence after he was convicted in 2015 of running Silk Road.
In a Saturday speech, Trump said that if people vote for him, he will commute the sentence of Ulbricht who has already served 11 years, promising to get him home.
The former President’s speech reflects his efforts to embrace the US crypto industry ahead of the November elections. Trump also asked for Libertarians to support him and pledged to appoint party members to his Cabinet and other senior administration posts.
A lot of Libertarian party members see Ulbricht as a “martyr” and lots of supporters carried “Free Ross” signs at the convention at the Washington Hilton, as Bloomberg reported.
Trump embraces pro-crypto policies
Trump has been showing huge support for the US crypto industry, and he also posted on the Truth Social platform that he is very positive and open-minded to crypto companies and everything related to this new and burgeoning industry. He said that the US should be a leader in the field.
In his Truth Social post, he also mentioned that “Crooked Joe Biden” wants the industry to die a “slow and painful death”, but something like that will never happen with him.
Anthony Pompliano also shared a post via his X account, featuring a video of Trump showing huge support for Bitcoin and crypto.
Pomp said that the leading Presidential candidate is explicitly showing his support for the industry and the right to self-custody.
He also highlighted that all the critics were wrong, and the government will definitely not ban crypto, but instead, will embrace the industry.
This is surreal.
The leading Presidential candidate is explicitly saying he will make America the leader in bitcoin & crypto, while supporting the right to self-custody.

“Bitcoin Senator” Cynthia Lummis also shared a post via X, in which she displayed her support for people’s right to self-custody.
She posted “Not your keys, not your coins,” promising to fight to protect every American’s right to self-custody their own private keys. She said that property rights are fundamental to decentralization and censorship resistance.
Trump’s Presidential campaign announced on May 21 that it will start accepting crypto donations. The move is mirroring support and solidarity with all opponents of the “socialistic government control” over the US financial markets, as noted by CNBC.
