On September 27, at the Meta Connect event, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed Meta AI, an AI-powered assistant marking the firm’s stride towards integrating AI with its social media platforms.
Built in collaboration with Microsoft Bing, Meta AI, driven by Meta’s Llama 2 language model, aims to provide real-time internet information to users, distinguishing itself from OpenAI’s ChatGPT by tailoring AI solutions to varied use cases.
Beyond answering queries, Meta AI showcases image generation capabilities, utilizing a tool named Emu, trained on 1.1 billion data pieces. This innovation exemplifies Meta’s move to blend conversational and informational AI, intending to enhance user engagement across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and upcoming mixed reality gadgets.
The most notable reveal, however, was the next-generation AI-enabled Ray-Ban smart glasses. Priced at $299, these innovative glasses have been designed with an inbuilt AI that can translate text in real time, thereby breaking language barriers and further enhancing the user experience. The glasses are set to start shipping on October 17th, according to Zuckerberg.
In addition to translation capabilities, the smart glasses will also offer unique features like streaming directly to Facebook, a first for any wearable device. This feature opens up new possibilities for content creators and users alike, enabling them to share their experiences more dynamically.
