Netflix announced on May 29 that the FTX saga will be featured in a new limited series called The Altruists.
On its official X account, Netflix wrote that the Irish actor Anthony Boyle and the American actress Julia Garner will play the roles of Sam Bankman-Fried, also known as SBF, and his girlfriend, Caroline Ellison.
SBF was the CEO and founder of the FTX crypto exchange, which collapsed in 2022, and Ellison was his girlfriend, and the ex-Alameda CEO.

The FTX Saga Featured in Netflix’s New Series, The Altruists
Netflix described the story via X, by saying that two “hyper-smart” young idealists try to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye, only to seduce one another into sealing $8 billion.
The new series is set to have eight episodes and will present the story of SBF and his girlfriend, Caroline, who were involved in the collapse of the FTX crypto exchange in 2022.
Graham Moore, who will co-showrun and executive produce the series, said, quoted by Netflix, that he’s been obsessed with the story for almost three years, highlighting his gratitude to his Netflix and Higher Ground friends for loving the story as much as him.
The Altruists is the latest project of Higher Ground’s partnership with Netflix. Higher Ground is an American production company founded in 2018 by former US President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
FTX Collapse Lingers in the Crypto Memory
The FTX collapse in November 2022 was an impactful event for the crypto industry, having meaningful significance:
- It was a wake-up call for the ecosystem, exposing the need for transparency and regulation.

Recent reports revealed that FTX will distribute over $5 billion in stablecoins to creditors.
