Trump intensifies his crypto advocacy
Trump is intensifying his crypto advocacy as part of his 2024 presidential campaign. He recently proclaimed his goal of becoming the “crypto President,” according to another recent Reuters report published on June 7.
The report cited sources familiar with the matter who reportedly declared that the former US President said that he would be the crypto president at a fundraising event in San Francisco hosted by Craft Ventures’ general partner, David Sacks, and tech billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya.
The event reportedly helped Trump raise $12 million to support his promotional efforts before the November 5 U.S. presidential election.
According to the report, Trump also reiterated his support for crypto and his plans to push the industry forward, while, at the same time, pointing out the Democratic Party’s intention to take the opposite approach with harsh regulations.
Trump’s 2024 campaign accepts Bitcoin donations via Lightning Network
In recent news, Donald Trump made an important move and became the first American President to accept Bitcoin Lightning Network payments for campaign donations.
This announcement marked an important step in integrating Bitcoin into mainstream politics, highlighting the former US President’s strong commitment to crypto.
Trump’s campaign has recently teamed up with OpenNode, a leading Bitcoin and Lightning Network infrastructure provider in order to facilitate these donations.
The former US President’s supporters can contribute to his presidential campaign using Bitcoin via the Lightning Network, a technology that’s designed to enable fast and low-cost transactions.
The strong support for crypto shown by Trump comes amidst massive efforts to slow down the crypto industry in the US, especially after Joe Biden’s latest move. Following his veto of the resolution to overturn the SEC’s crypto rules, U.S. lawmakers have intensified efforts to pass the FIT21 Act.
FIT21 bill is also supported by ‘Stand With Crypto’, a nonprofit group that has been created to keep the crypto industry in the US. The group is fighting for “common-sense” regulations for digital assets, according to their official website.
“Stand With Crypto” gathered over 1,05 million crypto advocates and raised more than $87 million in donations.
