Telegram-based games like Hamster Kombat are leading the charge for mainstream adoption of Web3 gaming, according to Yat Siu, co-founder and chairman of Animoca Brands. In a recent interview with Cointelegraph, Siu emphasized that platforms like Telegram and Ton (The Open Network) are removing barriers that have previously hindered Web3 game distribution.
“With platforms like Telegram and Ton, you have the ability to boost that [Web3 adoption] because they don’t have those restrictions. These games are the first of their kind to help bring mass adoption into Web3,” said Siu in a Cointelegraph interview
Hamster Kombat’s Meteoric Rise
Hamster Kombat, a viral clicker game, has quickly become one of the fastest-growing Web3 gaming applications. The game surpassed 300 million players by the end of July and is preparing for what it claims to be the “largest airdrop in the history of crypto.” The game is reportedly the third-fastest app globally to reach 150 million users and could potentially secure a Guinness World Record.
Hamster Kombat’s Planned Airdrop
Hamster Kombat is set to launch the “largest airdrop in the history of crypto.” The game announced in early August that all in-game activities would contribute to accumulating airdrop points. Players can earn tokens through various means, including passive income, task completion, achievements, Telegram subscriptions, and referrals.
A spokesperson for Hamster Kombat explained that eligibility for the airdrop would depend on the game cycle, community interactions, social activity, and the quality of invited players. “More players within the game will lead to higher capitalization and, consequently, larger rewards for everyone,” the spokesperson noted.
The airdrop aims to surpass Uniswap’s (UNI) 2020 airdrop, which distributed over $6.43 billion, making it the most valuable crypto airdrop to date.
While organizing such a large-scale airdrop presents significant challenges, Hamster Kombat has already broken records by reaching 100 million users in just two months. The game’s rapid growth and engagement highlight the potential of Web3 games in achieving mass adoption and expanding the digital asset ecosystem.
